- Ms Marjon’s final assembly
- Piasau Cake
- We gave Ms Marjon letters
Today brought us to the end of our P1 journey at Piasau School and, although we are excited at the prospect of new challenges, it was not easy to say goodbye to some of our friends and Miss Marjon. We had a lovely final day where we sang to Ms Marjon and gave her cards and gifts. She, in turn, sang a beautiful farewell song to us at a very special assembly written for the P7′s and 8′s by Mr Trevor. The message of the assembly was that even though we really love the place that we’re in at a certain time, there is a time to move forward and embrace new experiences. At snack time, we had a shared snack to celebrate a fantastic year in P1. Later, we enjoyed a whole school lunch organised by the PTA and it was wonderful to experience the feeling of being together one last time as Piasau School.
Miss Marjon summed it up best in her song, Favourite Things:
Raindrops on schooldays, and thunder and lightning! Hornbills in full flight and snakes that are frightening
Children that play on the field in the sun; or in the rain having plenty of fun!
Meals at the boat club and cake in the staffroom; Foxhunt and Book Week – come look at my costume!
Working with Jacqui, my neighbour, my friend…Lots of good memories that will never end.
IPC topics like Patterns and Shopping. Letters and Sounds teaching, all children reading.
Making a website for Piasau School. Working with blogs is just really cool.
Running or walking and playing tennis. Sail at the boat club – that’s where the fun is!
Shopping at Bintang; foot massage too, and Krokop Market to just name a few.
Traveling far to exciting locations. Chinese New Year and Gawai celebrations.
Children that come from around the world. International minded is the right word!
Frogs in the puddles and crocs in the river. Pantomime, Playback, Cooking club dinner
Playing piano – I’ve done many things. Lots of good friends here. It makes my heart sing!
When it’s time to say goodbye to you – that makes me sad.
I’ll simply remember my favourite things and then I won’t feel so bad!
To all P1 children and parents – have a super holiday. To those returning, we look forward to seeing you again when you are big Year 1 boys and girls. To those leaving – everything of the best and drop us a line now and then to let us know how you are doing.
Best wishes

Early Years on the Beach
July 7, 2011 by Miss Marjon · No Comments · Events, IPC
The Early Years group of children, teachers and parents started the day on the beach as an exit point to their IPC topics. The children split into smaller groups and enjoyed making and decorating sandcastles. It was hot work and the children were given an ice cold lolly after their building activities. After playing in the Boat Club playground, we all walked back to school. It was a memorable ending to our term’s work! A big thank you to the parents who assisted us.
Magic and Mystery at P1 Assembly
July 2, 2011 by Ms Jacqueline · 1 Comment · Events, IPC
P1 took the audience on a trip of magic and mystery during their assembly on Friday. We held our breath as Finlay, the fantastic magician flanked by his beautiful assistants, Chiamaka and Dana, used a variety of spells to make a rabbit appear out of his hat. On his first attempt, he found the bowl that Goldilocks (Maggie) was looking for. The 3 bears (Lance, Nancin and Simon) were not happy with Goldilocks and she shot off in fright when she found them standing over her. On the second attempt, the magician conjured up the brick that the 3 little pigs (Sophie M, Sophie C and Caitlyn) had been looking for. They bought the rest of their building supplies from Ricky who warned them to beware of Mustapha, the big bad wolf! On his third attempt, the magician made a turnip appear! The farmer (Lachlan), his wife (Jedidah), the girl (Norah), the boy (Chinedu), the dog (Joris) and the cat (Jessica) could not pull it up until the mouse (Luthfi) came along with his big muscles and saved the day. Finlay and his assistants weren’t giving up, though, and, using all the magic spells that he knew, he managed to turn all the characters into rabbits! Everyone enjoyed dancing to The Bunny Hop! Thanks to Gianna Minton for sharing her photos with us.

Splash!
June 29, 2011 by Miss Marjon · No Comments · Physical Education
P1 had so much fun participating in the annual Splash today. The children were divided into 3 teams, the Whales, Sharks and Dolphins. The first race was the Froggy Back Relay where they hitched a ride on a frog’s back, This was followed by Spaghetti Junction (swimming with a noodle), the Krazy Kicka and finally the Doughnut Derby where they put on their doughnuts (armbands), swam to the other side and handed over the doughnuts to their team mate. It was wonderful seeing how they co-operated in their teams and the sporting behaviour that each team exhibited. It was a wonderful morning spent celebrating all the skills that they had learned during swimming lessons this year. We were also very impressed by the mums who showed us their style and speed in the parents race! A very big thank you to Katie Lindsay for taking the superb photos in the slideshow.

A week full of puppets…
June 16, 2011 by Miss Marjon · No Comments · IPC
This week the children in P1 were very busy learning about puppets. In Miss Catherine’s group the children became real puppeteers and after some practice they performed traditional stories to the rest of their group. In Miss Jacqueline’s group, we spoke about different kinds of puppets and the children made paper bag puppets. In Miss Marjon’s group the children saw some video clips of a giant marionette, a shadow puppet play and water puppets in Vietnam. They also made their own spoon puppets and were very happy with their results.

Let’s Pretend….
June 7, 2011 by Ms Jacqueline · 1 Comment · IPC
P1′s had a super morning during the entry point to their new IPC topic, Let’s Pretend. When we arrived back at school, we discovered that Little Red Riding Hood had been to visit us during the Gawai holiday. When she found that we were away, she left a letter explaining that she’d heard about our new topic and wanted to help. She left boxes of dressing up clothes for us. We had great fun selecting a costume and parading around the lower school. We look forward to many more days of pretending…
